Accessibility

Our commitment

We want this website and the websites we build to be usable by as many people as possible, including people using screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification or voice control.

What we do

  • Use semantic HTML so assistive technology can interpret page structure correctly
  • Maintain colour contrast that meets or exceeds the WCAG 2.1 AA threshold for body text
  • Ensure the site is fully navigable by keyboard, with visible focus states
  • Provide text alternatives for meaningful images and mark decorative images so they are skipped
  • Use headings in a logical order rather than choosing them for visual size
  • Respect the reduced motion preference set in a visitor's operating system
  • Build layouts that work at 200 percent zoom without loss of content or function
  • Label form fields properly and describe errors in text rather than by colour alone

Client websites

The same standards are applied to the websites we build for clients. Accessibility is part of the build rather than an extra to purchase. Where a client supplies content such as images or documents, we advise on making that content accessible, but the final content remains their responsibility.

Known limitations

Some third party tools that clients ask us to embed, such as external booking widgets or map components, are outside our control and may not meet the same standard. Where we are aware of a limitation we will say so and look for an alternative if one exists.

Feedback

If you encounter a barrier on this website, or on a website we built, please tell us at hello@sdwebsites.com. Describe the page and what happened, and we will respond and work to correct it.

Accessible by default.

Every site we build is made to work for the widest possible audience, at no extra cost.
